Preposition in Spanish. Part one
What are prepositions?
We all use them and can probably name them, but what are their definitions?
My students always ask me about their translation. I tell them, “There isn’t an exact translation for prepositions. Languages are quite unique in the way they use them.”
For example, let’s think about de in Spanish:
La Universidad de Alberta: University of Alberta
La casa de mi abuela: My grandmother’s house
Trabajo de 08:00 a 17:00: I work from 08:00 to 05:00
Different translations — not a straightforward one.
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, de can be translated as:
of, from, due to, in, at, on, as, by, etc.
